Engraved Plate 9 from Bion’s treatise (The Hague, 1723; first published in Paris in 1709) which includes: (A) and (B) hexagonal scale-holder containing dividers; (C) and (D) double-ended crayon-holder; (E), (F) and (G) views of an early fountain pen; (1) Bion’s paper clip; (K) simple pantograph; (L), (N) and (O) set squares (the last can be used as a level with a plumb-bob); (P) scale rule with three comparative graduations for London, Paris and the Rhineland; (Q) parallel rule with scissored links; (R) parallel rule with diagonal links; (S) pedometer; (T) and (V) two dials.
