“Ospedale Maggiore - 1460 - by Filarete
The Ospedale Maggiore was one of Filarete’s work were we see his view on the renaissance city. A symmetrical whole with a in the center the most important building (in this case a church). The squares formed by the intersecting arms (which were the Hospital rooms) formed wonderful gardens, as Filarete believed that health was both physical and mental, which provided a place to rest and enjoy the day for the sick.
In around 1455 Filarete wrote “Trattato d’architettura” where he described the ideal city of “Sforzindia”. The main plan was a star shaped form and was the first [?] completly symmetrical city plan in all western history!”
